Mise-En-Scene
Mise-en-scene is a French term borrowed from a Theatrical Term 'put into the scene', this term is used when looking at any scene or shot in a TV show or a film. It unpicks the reason behind the use of a certain prop or the positioning of a character in a certain scene.
We are setting our film in Aylsebere and Within Lane this is too emphasis the realism because our film opening is based off a true story and these are exact locations.
Little light is used, this is typically used in a sinister or dangerous scene. For example in this scene when they are running through the underground sewer. Low key lighting is used to give the scene a sense of mystery.
Setting
A setting can really set the scene in a film, it gives a sense of place and can give of an atmosphere and often reflect the personality and emotion of a character. For example, in this scene of Katniss running through District 12 in the first film you can see that it is a run down area and the quality of life there isn't great. You can see that behind her things are broken and decaying, there is no color so it gives an eerie atmosphere in this scene.Setting typically differs depending on the genre of film for example in a thriller the setting will usually be set in a warehouse or a `dangerous area`. The setting is then reinforced by other aspects such as costumes or lighting this all give us an idea of the genre of a Film or TV series.

Lighting
Low Key Lighting
Little light is used, this is typically used in a sinister or dangerous scene. For example in this scene when they are running through the underground sewer. Low key lighting is used to give the scene a sense of mystery.
High Key Lighting
Bright lights are used to create a different dynamic within a scene this is especially used to create a more upbeat atmosphere, it is also used to create a smaller contrast between brighter and darker areas.
For our film opening we are using natural lighting this is because our film opening is set in the day time, we hope that this will add to the realism.
Composition
Composition is something which is explored in every scene within a movie or a TV show, it looks at why certain objects are placed in certain places and why certain people or in certain places when in a scene maybe due to the importance of a person. It also looks at the distribution of Light and colour, they look at this to decide on if there is for example too much shadowing from a character or if they are too white washed from too much light. With color the same thing applies for example if the people in a scene are in the upper class they may not be wearing bright clothes and vice averse. For example, in this scene dull clothing is used to show that the area is lower class.
The composition of our shots will differ depending on the location of the shot and what scenes we are filming. For the man we will be having a lot of close up shots to add to the mystery as where as the shots of Genette will be further away.
Costume
Costumes play a big part in setting a scene and helps us to understand the character further as a person. Someones clothing usually also helps to define class or help an audience member establish a certain era. For example, in this scene you can see the contrast between the two different classes due to the rich and bright colours that she is wearing compared to the dull and grey colours that everyone else is wearing to show that they are from a lower class. You can also tell that it is set in the future from the peacekeepers outfits as they look futuristic.
Our actors are going to be wearing average clothing worn by an average 13 year old, the costumes will be the same for the 2 teenage girls. The man will be wearing a dark coloured coat so it adds to the unknown.
Space
Deep space
Deep space is typically used to in capture important people and objects within a scene. For example, if someone is looking at something in the distance in front of them then they will try to include it all in one shot. This helps to highlight any obstacles or objects, this may be typically used in a action movie to show danger.
Alot of our shots will be done using the idea of deep space to show the distance between the camera and Genette however there will be shallow space when the camera is on the man to add to the tension.
Shallow space
Shallow space is the complete opposite of deep space and makes the image seem 2D. This shot is used to create tension and suspense for the reader. The use of shallow space makes the shot loss realism however creates tense atmosphere. I leads to enhance of viewing.
